I recently purchased a Nikon D800 with my main interest being the 36 megapixels. I don’t feel like discussing whether megapixels matter or not; I simply don’t care. I love to shoot HDR landscapes and cityscapes, let me tell you that these files are HUGE! The very first image I shot was a panoramic HDR of this huge field near my house. The sun was setting and the clouds were dramatic that day. The scene looked very nice, so why not use this wonderful camera to capture that moment!
I took 85 photos of the scene and created HDRs of the bracketed shots. Next I stitched the photos together in Photoshop CS6 using photomerge. The result ended up being a 1.8 GB file with no adjustment layers (wow!) and 331 megapixels (3544 px x 9337 px). Took my computer about 3-5 minutes to process the merge. Anyway I just thought it be interesting to give those numbers. I’m not really into the technical aspects of photoshop, I just like to create my art with it. Photoshop is a tool and another step in my process of creating.
I love this photo, it’s simple. I love the sun, the clouds, the sky and I love the feeling I get when I remember how I felt standing in the middle of that field. When I do HDR photos I process them in a way so they have a painterly feel to them. I used to oversharpen my photos and they would have halos but that was due to me not understanding how to get what I wanted from HDR Pro. That’s was when I first started out. I am becoming more and more consistent in my approach to my photography and editing. I know how I want my images to look and I know how to put my “style” in my work. I’m confident in my abilities now; the best thing is there is always room for improvement. How excited for the future I am!
Have a great day and make the most of it!
